Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I use Martha’s Dog and Cat Services?

Your pet(s) will always be happiest in their own home environment while you’re away. This makes it easier to keep your animals on their own regular diet and exercise routine. Your pet is not exposed to any illness that might be present in a kennel or a vet’s office and the stress of other animals in those places. Also, I make sure your pet gets lots of personal attention and love while you’re gone. With my background as a veterinary assistant, I am knowledgeable about animal health. You can leave safely knowing that I will be the only one entering your home. I am a mature Arlington homeowner. I have been in business since 2011, and am a member of the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS).

What services do you provide?

I provide care for your pet(s) in your home. We will discuss the needs of your pet(s) and schedule as many visits per day as is necessary for their health and happiness. I will provide fresh water at each visit and will feed your pet(s) according to your instructions. I will safely supervise your dog while they play in your fenced back yard to help them get some attention and exercise. I will scoop cat litter daily. I will administer prescribed medications and/or supplements as directed. I will also water plants, bring in your mail and newspaper and adjust window treatments as you request. I do not board animals in my home, or stay in your home overnight. I do not do grooming.

Are you bonded and insured?

Yes, I am bonded and insured through Business Insurers of the Carolinas, which is underwritten by Travelers Casualty & Surety Company of America. Unlike most insurance companies, they provide a liability policy specifically for pet sitters.

What is the purpose of the initial client consultation and is there a fee?

The initial consultation is free. When you call and we discuss your needs, you will be provided with paperwork to complete so that I can get all the information I need to care for your pets. The initial client consultation gives me a chance to meet you and your pets, go over your completed paperwork and to ask each other questions. We will cover your schedule and any special needs or instructions for your pets and your home. All dogs will be given a temperament test. You will give me the key to your house and the alarm code or fob. I will keep the key if you are comfortable with that and plan to use my services again or I will be happy to return your key. However, if I do return your key and you use my services again, you will be charged a fee for me to come to your house to pick up the key again.

I am leaving in two days and don’t have time for an initial consultation. Will you take care of my pets without meeting them or doing the initial consultation?

No, I always require an initial consultation before taking care of your pets.

What vaccinations do you require?

All pets must be current on all vaccinations.

What area do you cover?

I cover all of Arlington, Pantego and Dalworthington Gardens, Texas

What hours do you provide services?

Pet visits are usually between 6:00 am and 10:00 pm.

How long are your visits?

The average visit is about 30 minutes, but visits can be longer or shorter, depending on the needs of your pet(s) and your preferences.

Do you always visit at the time we ask for?

When we schedule your visits, we will discuss a time frame for each visit. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferences

Can I arrange to have some visits done by other people while I’m gone?

For the safety of your pets and your home, I must be the only person entering your home while you’re gone.

If my dog is not fully house-trained or my cat does not use the litter box consistently, do you clean it up?

Yes, I will clean up after your pets. If your pet has frequent accidents, I may ask you to book an additional visit during the daytime or I might charge for excessive cleanup.

What happens if there is an emergency with my pet(s) or my house while I am gone?

You will complete a form giving information on your veterinarian and your wishes in the event of an emergency or illness involving your pet(s). If a decision about emergency pet care must be made and I am unable to reach you or your emergency contact, I will make a decision based on the best interest of your pet(s). I will make sure your pet receives any needed emergency treatment and you will reimburse me upon your return. If there is an emergency with your house, I will call you or your emergency contact to get instructions for handling the emergency.

What kind of animals do you care for?

I specialize in dogs and cats, but I will take care of small mammals, such as rabbits. I cannot care for any animals that have a history of biting, fighting or attacking other animals or people.

Can I have every other day cat visits? Is there a minimum of visits per day for dogs?

I believe all cats should be visited no less than once daily. This is for the health of your cat(s). I will not do fewer than 3 visits per day for dogs. This is for the comfort and health of the dog.

Can you let me know how my pet is doing while I’m away?

Yes, absolutely. I leave detailed notes on each visit and can text you updates. You will be required to text me when you get home so I will know your pets are once again in your care.

Do you charge an extra holiday fee?

No, I do not, but please keep in mind that holiday periods and peak vacation times, such as spring break, book up quickly so please schedule as far in advance as possible!

How is payment handled?

“For your convenience I accept Zelle, ApplePay, GooglePay, checks, and cash. Payment is expected by the first day of service.”

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 48 hours advance notice for non-holiday visits and one-week advance notice for holiday visits.

What happens if I did not leave enough food for my pet(s)?

If I have to purchase food while you are gone, you will be charged a $25 trip charge and you will be required to reimburse me for the cost of the food.
